This French CD is a 2012 compilation with four new songs (tracks 1-4). Three of the new titles are good, but a hammy vocal performance by Jean-Jacques Debout spoils ‘Monsieur Jean’. Chantal’s husband may be a respected musician, but his over-the-top ‘singing’ on the latter makes him sound like a buffoon! With titles such as ‘Multiplication tables’ and ‘Alphabet singing’, this CD is rather childish for an adult. Most of the songs feature a choir of children, which can become wearing for the listener. An eight and a half minute medley of Chantal Goya songs was the worst track on her 1987 album ‘Le monde tourne a l’envers’. The medley’s inclusion on this 1 hour collection is baffling. No complaints about the other 1987 songs though (‘Le bon Dieu’/’En tournée’).Devoid of children, Chantal’s own composition ‘Indochina’ (1994) is the best song. The childish tunes ‘Piou Piou petit poussin’ and ‘Dou ni dou ni day’ are annoying yet strangely memorable.Chantal Goya’s best album is ‘Rythme et Couleur’ (1990). I would advise customers to buy that one instead.
